Le Plaza - Plan Coupe

Open Days at Mont-Blanc Center du Plaza

Open days Friday 29 and Saturday 30 November 2024
Free entrance
From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Open Days at the Mont-Blanc Centre du Plaza invite the public to discover the details of the restoration of this listed building, designed in 1952 by Marc J. Saugey. Although the historic cinema is still under construction, visitors will have the opportunity to explore, thanks to flying guides, the architecture of the building erected above the cinema as well as the specific features of the future cultural complex. The various structures linked to culture and cinema, which are or will soon be installed there, will also open their doors to reveal behind the scenes of their activities:

  • Exhibition of photographs by Simon Edelstein
  • Video animations by Z1 Studio (Camille de Dieu et Laurent Novac) and n + n Corsino
  • Discovery of film festivals GIFF, FIFDH, EVERYBODY’S PERFECT and of the fondation Cinéforum
  • Dance workshop with Nicolas Cantillon proposed by Flux Laboratory between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
  • Discovery of cinema production with Rita Productions
  • Exhibition of cinema and architecture publications with Large/Kiosk
  • Presentation of the future Plaza Center Cinema project
  • Exhibition of models of spaces proposed by FdMP architects
  • Guided tours by FdMP architects and by students from HEPIA (Geneva School of Landscape, Engineering and Architecture)

To enhance the stroll through the floors, an exhibition, animations as well as visual immersions will be on the program, starting with the elevators, transformed into real immersive capsules, thanks to the screens animated by Z1 Studio (Camille de Dieu and Laurent Novac). The duo n + n Corsino, formed by Marseille choreographers Nicole and Norbert Corsino, will make an incursion onto the screens, located on each floor, by offering their images of bodies “which surf on their vertical time”.

An exhibition of photographs by Simon Edelstein will offer a world tour of abandoned cinemas. The series by the Geneva photographer and director captures the sleeping splendor of historic theaters and highlights the majestic facades of sublime cinemas in the four corners of the globe.

Both days, the Flux Laboratory will invite choreographer Nicolas Cantillon to give a workshop on his “Fuitt Fuitt” technique. Open to everyone, continuously between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., this dance helps you work and feel an unexpected fluidity in your body.

These Open Days will allow the public to discover part of the Plaza Center Cinema project, in a lively and fun way, like the events between 2020 and 2022 before the launch of the renovation project. These are privileged moments to familiarize yourself with this cultural complex in the making, while waiting for the inauguration of the brasserie and the hotel-cinema in the fall of 2025 and the grand opening of the cinema, an immersive room and of the entire complex in the fall of 2026.
