Brasserie Europe, Where Gastronomy Meets Cinema

Brasserie Europe will offer joyful and creative cuisine. In a cinematic atmosphere—whether through its culinary program inspired by films or by events hosted by the Plaza—the Brasserie will delight your taste buds, your eyes, and all your senses.

With special evenings linked to Plaza events, dinner-and-movie nights, dinner concerts, and collaborations between chefs and personalities from the film world, the Brasserie will be one of the beating hearts of the Plaza Centre Cinéma. It will be a place where you might run into personalities, artists, directors, and actors.

Located in the city center just steps from the lake, Brasserie Europe will also be the ideal venue for business lunches or for gatherings of Geneva locals around a friendly yet elegant menu.

Open seven days a week, Brasserie Europe will be infused with a vibrant, urban, cosmopolitan atmosphere, offering—through its large picture window—a cinematic view of the city.

The History of Brasserie Europe

A café-restaurant named Café de l’Europe existed on Rue du Cendrier as early as the late 19th century. Its story is explored in depth in the excellent article by Elisabeth Chardon in La Couleur des jours (in French).

During the transformation of the neighborhood and the construction of the Mont-Blanc Centre, architect Marc J. Saugey chose to revive this convivial gathering place at the heart of his multifunctional project. This is how Brasserie de l’Europe was reborn in a much more modern form in 1952, just above the cinema. After a few decades, the brasserie gave way to a Chinese restaurant, Le Mandarin, which closed its doors a few years ago.

Today, Brasserie Europe is coming back to life in the same location, with its large picture window overlooking the crossroads and the square where the charming Anglican church, Holy Trinity Church, stands.
